Health is a loaded word, and what it means to be healthy is a lesson often overlooked for people with disabilities. Additionally, concepts within health can be complicated, contradictory, or unclear.
Everyone should be educated on the basics of health and how to live a healthier happier lifestyle. This is why Solution to Health Inclusion's #HealthyHabits were created. The goal is to provide easy to implement daily habits that can improve overall physical, mental, and emotional health. Tia has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy and shares her knowledge through tips she uses herself each day. By sharing resources from Special Olympics as well as generating original healthy tips, Solution to Health Inclusion allows every person to improve their overall well-being.
Education begins with every organic conversation, and Tia elevates public awareness further through social media. She advocates and educates her community on health disparities, educates healthcare professionals and students on how to treat people with disabilities, and shares the inclusion revolution by encouraging others to get involved with Special Olympics and adaptive sports. Follow Tia on social media to continue learning about the initiative!

To utilize these educational health resources provided by Special Olympics:
As the President of Aztec Adaptive Sports, and Events Coordinator, Tia led an executive board and fellow students to bring awareness to SDSU's Adapted Athletics program, the Paralympics, and the need for adapted sports. AAS is committed to educating SDSU students and the San Diego community about how adapted sports are vital to inclusive health. During her time on the executive board, she helped plan Tokyo Vision: The Paralympic Perspective, a campus wide event featuring 5 Paralympians as guest speakers. The Paralympians shared their experience in Tokyo as well as their perspective on the adaptive sports movement, mental health in professional sports, and the journey to competing as an elite athlete. AAS has hosted many other Paralympians and adapted athletes as guest speakers as well, including gold medalist wheelchair tennis players, national champion swimmers, and more. Tia also led AAS to spread awareness through tabling on campus and at community events, on social media, through the College of Health and Human Services College Council, and through collaborations with the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at SDSU. She continues to volunteer at adaptive sporting events and educate others on the movement.
